🧠 Don't Get Scammed: How to Spot Fake Football Agents

In recent years, too many young footballers have fallen victim to fraudulent "agents" who promise trials abroad or professional contracts that never exist. These scams often end in financial loss — and, in tragic cases, serious harm.

At the PFWADA, our mission is to protect every player's career and wellbeing. Knowing how to identify and report fake agents is a crucial first step.

1. Red flags every player should recognise

Up-front payment demands: legitimate agents are paid a commission after a player signs a real contract — never before.

No written documentation: any agent who refuses to provide written terms or official letters of invitation should be treated as a scammer.

Unverifiable clubs or trials: always check directly with the club or association listed in the "offer." Many fake trials use the names of real teams to deceive players.

No licence or registration: FIFA-licensed agents are listed publicly and can be verified. PFWADA can help confirm this.

2. What genuine agents look like

True agents are transparent, traceable, and professional. They will:

• Provide official FIFA registration or proof of licensing.
• Communicate through professional channels, not personal social-media DMs.
• Encourage you to verify their credentials through PFWADA or the NFF.

3. Before you travel or commit

• Contact PFWADA to verify any trial or agent before you make payments or travel.
• Never go abroad without official club correspondence and a confirmed itinerary.
• Always inform your family and association of your travel details.

4. PFWADA's role in protecting players

The PFWADA operates a Player Verification Desk that assists in checking agent credentials, verifying trials, and guiding players who receive suspicious offers.
